After a lot of hard work, I am happy to finally announce that we can publish the site. Everyone should now be able to register and view the urbex map completely for free The decisions to make this site the way it is now have not always been easy. Here I would like to clarify some details, for example why we decided not to make the map completely free for everyone and without any requirements.
The name Urbexplorer was actually not hard to find, an explorer for Urbex locations. I just wanted to have a site that would allow me to search for urban locations as easily as a file in Windows explorer. That allows everyone to submit places and change, comment or rate them. And which allows everyone to exchange information with other Urbexers from all over the world
Why with donations?
Urbexplorer is free and will always be free. But of course I also have to pay for the servers where the urbexplorer data is stored. The development of this site also took quite a lot of time. And also in the future, I do not plan to spend less time with this site, the site should of course remain moderated. If you would like to support us, you are welcome to do that here. Thank you
Why do I have to submit a location?
To be precise, you don’t have to, because you can also donate a small amount to be authenticated.
But if you don’t want to donate anything, you have to send us a location to get access to the map. It’s like an exchange, so our map can keep growing and you get more and more cool places to visit.
Unfortunately, we have to do something like this because otherwise there would be far too many trolls and bots active in this community. there would probably just be 100s of fake locations or they would simply try to delete all the locations. To prevent this we have decided to use this authentication system.
Why is the Shop still in development?
Unfortunately, the shop is still under development, as an online shop is quite a lot of work and we have other priorities at the moment. If you would like to support us, you can do so in the meantime via a donation, however we will try to finalise and publish the shop as soon as possible. If you have any ideas about which products we should sell, please feel free to contact us, we look forward to hearing from you!
How can I help?
If you would like to help us, please feel free to contact us, for example if you are multilingual, you can help us translate our website as we are planning to publish it in an update. We are also looking for moderators to help us review and publish submitted locations, edits or requests to delete locations and to keep our forum free of insults and spam. If you would like to contribute to the development of this website, please send us a message, we look forward to hearing from you.
