Location description:
Current conditions:
1. Uninhabited; the historic center, at 391 m, is completely deserted. Today, only 560 people live in the municipality, all in the valley below.
2. Uninhabitable and dangerous; the stone houses remain frozen in time as they were when abandoned, but many are supported by temporary structures.
3. A tourist destination and film set, accessible only with a guide, a helmet, and a reservation for safety reasons. Mel Gibson’s *The Passion of the Christ* and the James Bond film *Quantum of Solace* were filmed here.
4. Unstable terrain: It sits on badlands, where the clay easily erodes when wet. For this reason, it is on the World Monuments Fund’s list of sites to be preserved.
In short: Old Craco remains intact but abandoned, while New Craco is down in the valley.

Backpack
At 300$, this backpack is certainly not one of the cheapest backpacks, but we can say with a clear conscience that it is money well spent. It is well produced, has some well thought-out functions and still looks nice. Despite the high price, this backpack also has 4.5 stars out of 300 Amazon reviews.
4-Gas Monitor
A 4-gas monitor detects and measures not only carbon monoxide but also the levels of oxygen, combustible gases and hydrogen sulphide and ensures safety in hazardous environments by indicating dangerous gas concentrations. Highly recommended especially in bunkers and places where there is not much fresh air
