Location Description:
Just north of Liège lies the A601 — a 5 km stretch of motorway frozen in time. Once a vital link between the A3 (E25–E40–E42) and the A13 (E313) for traffic between Germany and Antwerp, it was fully closed in 2014 after years of neglect made it unsafe.
Since then, the road has fallen into decay. Guardrails are rusting, asphalt is cracked, and vegetation slowly reclaims the lanes once filled with speeding cars. Streetlights were removed, and silence took over — broken only by the sounds of cyclists, wanderers, and urban explorers drawn to this eerie piece of forgotten infrastructure.
In 2021, after catastrophic floods in the Vesdre valley, the A601 briefly returned to use — as a dumping site for tens of thousands of tons of debris and mud. Today, it remains officially off-limits, yet its vast emptiness and overgrown beauty make it one of Belgium’s most surreal urban exploration spots.
Access: Officially prohibited, but easily reached on foot. One of the simplest entry points is where the motorway bridge crosses Avenue du Parc Industriel, offering direct access to the abandoned tarmac. Another good vantage point is near the Milmort football field (Rue de l’Escousset), where you can view the motorway safely from a distance.

Backpack
At 300$, this backpack is certainly not one of the cheapest backpacks, but we can say with a clear conscience that it is money well spent. It is well produced, has some well thought-out functions and still looks nice. Despite the high price, this backpack also has 4.5 stars out of 300 Amazon reviews.
4-Gas Monitor
A 4-gas monitor detects and measures not only carbon monoxide but also the levels of oxygen, combustible gases and hydrogen sulphide and ensures safety in hazardous environments by indicating dangerous gas concentrations. Highly recommended especially in bunkers and places where there is not much fresh air
