Location Description:
A special weapons depot located about 5 km northeast of Rheine.
The former Uthuisen special weapons depot near Rheine stands today as a silent witness to nuclear deterrence in the Münsterland region. Hidden deep in the forest, the heavily guarded area served during the Cold War as a depot for tactical nuclear bombs that would have been deployed by Fighter-Bomber Wing 36 in Hopsten in the event of an emergency. The site was secured according to the two-key principle: while German soldiers guarded the outer perimeter, U.S. units had exclusive control over the warheads in the inner area.
For urban explorers, the site is an interesting destination today, as the typical structure of a “Special Ammunition Storage” (SAS) is still recognizable. There, one finds the characteristic three earth-covered ammunition bunkers, which were once illuminated by floodlights and surrounded by multiple fences. Although military use ended in the early 1990s and many above-ground buildings as well as the fences were largely dismantled, the massive bunker mounds and the remains of the concrete pathways are still present. Nature has reclaimed large parts of the site, giving the facility a gloomy, abandoned atmosphere typical of former high-security zones from that era.

Backpack
At 300$, this backpack is certainly not one of the cheapest backpacks, but we can say with a clear conscience that it is money well spent. It is well produced, has some well thought-out functions and still looks nice. Despite the high price, this backpack also has 4.5 stars out of 300 Amazon reviews.
4-Gas Monitor
A 4-gas monitor detects and measures not only carbon monoxide but also the levels of oxygen, combustible gases and hydrogen sulphide and ensures safety in hazardous environments by indicating dangerous gas concentrations. Highly recommended especially in bunkers and places where there is not much fresh air
